Cookie Policy
What we store on your device, why, how long for, and how to reject or withdraw consent at any time. Rejecting non-essential cookies does not break anything on this website.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. Similar technologies include local storage and pixels. We use the word "cookies" throughout this page to cover all of them. Some are strictly necessary; the rest require your consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 and the UK GDPR.
2. Your choice
When you first arrive, a small panel appears in the bottom-left corner offering Accept all or Reject non-essential. Nothing beyond the strictly necessary entry is set until you choose. Your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage under the key rv_cookie_consent and is never transmitted to us or to anyone else.
3. Cookies we use
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| rv_cookie_consent | Strictly necessary | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected non-essential cookies so we do not ask again | 12 months (local storage) |
| _rv_session | Strictly necessary | Keeps the contact form working correctly during a single visit | Session only |
| _analytics_id | Analytics (consent required) | Counts page views and measures which reviews readers find useful. IP addresses are truncated before storage | 14 months |
| rv_ref | Affiliate attribution (consent required) | Records that a visit to a brand originated here so any commission is attributed correctly | 30 days |
We do not use advertising cookies, cross-domain tracking pixels, social media trackers or fingerprinting. We do not build profiles of individual readers, and we do not sell or share any of this information for marketing purposes.
4. Third-party fonts
Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. Requesting a font sends your IP address and browser user agent to Google as a technical necessity of the request. No cookie is set by this. If you prefer to avoid it, most browsers and privacy extensions allow you to block third-party font requests, and the website will fall back to your system typefaces.
5. Managing cookies in your browser
You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings at any time. Instructions are published by Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Blocking strictly necessary entries may mean the consent panel reappears on every page.
6. Consequences of rejecting
None that affect you. Every review, table, form and link on this website works identically whether you accept or reject. Rejecting means we see less about which pages are useful, which is our problem rather than yours.
7. Changes
If we add or remove a cookie we update the table above and raise the version number. Where a new non-essential cookie is introduced, we ask for consent again.
